Training Inputs

The Training sector has undergone a comprehensive re-write. Training costs can now be entered in either Simplified or Detailed mode. In Simplified mode, training costs are based on turnover of personnel and the number of new aircraft introductions. In Detailed mode, training requirements are specified annually in a table, for different training centers. In either mode, additional annual costs can be added (as a Throughput-style table). There are more ways to specify Simulator Operations costs; per year, per squadron per year, or an annual cost profile can be entered.

Pilot Training

The Pilots sub-sector represents pilot training costs. Simplified and detailed representations are available. The number of pilots requiring training can be specified as well as the associated costs. There is also the option to enter any additional pilot training costs as an annual profile cost.

Simplified Representation

The simplified representation of pilot training contains the number of personnel requiring training and the cost of training. Numbers are in terms of requirement per aircraft introduction and turnover percentage.

The Simplified Pilot Training Input Form

The number of personnel requiring training is determined by the turnover of pilots and the number of new JSF pilots required per aircraft introduced. Each new aircraft introduced will incur JSF-specific training. New pilots as a result of turnover will incur undergraduate pilot training and JSF-specific training costs. It is assumed that the duration of training is 12-months and that training for new aircraft will occur in the 12-months prior to the introduction of an aircraft.

The cost of pilot training is specified separately for JSF-specific training and undergraduate pilot training.

A diagnostic table is provided illustrating the total number of personnel that require training based on the values entered in this sector, the Personnel sector and the Program Profile. This is for information only and is non-editable. Right-clicking on the table provides a Copy Table option, allowing the table to be copied to other applications such as Microsoft Excel.

Detailed Representation

The detailed representation of pilot training contains an annual profile of the number of pilots that require training for four training categories, and the number of undergraduate trainees. The costs associated with all training categories and trainee pay are also specified.

The number of pilots requiring training each year is entered for Eglin, Other ITC, PTC A and PTC B facilities. The annual cost of training is calculated from the number of personnel requiring training and the training costs per person. The total training salaries are calculated from the number of personnel requiring training (excluding undergraduates) and the trainee pay.

Additional Pilot Training Costs

The additional pilot training costs are applied irrespective of the level of detail used to represent training costs.

The additional pilots training costs can be specified as an annual cost profile. Costs can be entered for additional Eglin, Other ITC, PTC A and PTC B costs.

Maintenance Personnel Training

The Maintenance Personnel sub-sector represents Maintenance Personnel training costs. Simplified and detailed representations are available. The number of Maintenance Personnel requiring training can be specified as well as the associated costs. There is also the option to enter any additional maintenance personnel training costs as an annual profile cost.

Simplified Representation

The simplified representation of maintenance personnel training contains the number of personnel requiring training and the cost of training. Numbers are in terms of requirement per aircraft introduction and turnover.

The number of personnel requiring training is determined by the turnover of officer and enlisted maintenance personnel and the number of new JSF officers and enlisted personnel required per aircraft introduced. Each new aircraft introduced will incur JSF-specific maintenance training. New maintenance personnel as a result of turnover will incur basic technical training and JSF-specific maintenance training costs. It is assumed that the duration of training is 12-months and that training for new aircraft will occur in the 12-months prior to the introduction of an aircraft. Note that the number of maintenance personnel in the pipeline and basic technical training is not reduced during a CLS period.

The cost of maintenance personnel training is specified separately for JSF-specific training and basic technical training.

The costs associated with all training categories and trainee pay are also represented.

Simulator Operations

The simulator operations sub-sector represents costs from simulators and other training systems.

Simulator operations costs can be represented as a fixed annual cost, as a cost per squadron, or as an annual profiled cost. The costs per squadron can be specified separately for the Active, Reserve and Test environments, but are not applicable to the Training environment. Profiled annual costs can be specified separately for up to five items.
